Exploring Nature

Sponsored by Citroen UK

The area which is media sponsored by Country Living Magazine demonstrates the wide range of habitats and their inhabitants in conjunction with many of the conservation projects that are currently running to protect them.

  • Wychwood Project established in 1997 to raise awareness of the history and identity of the area, and to work with local communities to restore its rich patchwork of landscapes and habitats within the Forest boundaries.
  • The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity dedicated solely to the protection of our native woodland heritage.
  • The Veteran oak is about 600 years old.  The tree has become hollowed out with age and now provides a fascinating habitat for numerous insects and small rodents.
  • The Virtual Oak Tree Tour film has been made of the inside of the veteran oak with a narration by local tree expert and storyteller, Ted Green, in the Woodland Trust stand.
  • Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) will be reproducing an area of field margin and meadow flowers.
  • Countryside Foundation for Education will be providing interactive children’s activities including the “Habitat Trail” incorporating the Countryside Code.
  • John Savings will be laying hedges to illustrate the habitats created, the environmental impact and the benefits to the countryside as a whole of well maintained hedging.
  • Dry Stone Walling provides a haven for many plants and insects and we will be recreating a wall in the traditional Cotswold stone as well as having an ongoing demonstration of the craft.
  • Butterflies  are a natural element of this feature, being one of the most readily identifiable creatures within the British countryside.
  • Daphne Neville's otters, Mr Bee and Little Bee, are huge favourites and always put on a star turn.
  • Stonesfiled Owl Rescue will offer visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with a range of British owls.
